Valentines Day Giveaway

new year new beginnings

This year has started off quickly, with a few weddings already booked and a lot of incoming inquires. I am really looking forward to the 2019 season!

Since 2001 my primary source of income has been photographing weddings. I started off charging 2,900 in 2001. It was really not enough to live off of, but it was so much fun. I loved it so much, that I was okay living from hand to mouth. One year I booked 18 weddings (between May and October) some on back to back days. It was late December in 2012 and I had just finished shooting a wedding at a hotel. It was perfectly nice, and a adorable couple. But I started realizing that I was burnt out. I missed out on so many friends gatherings that summer, family reunions, college reunions, and I missed summer completely. Suddenly it was weeks before Christmas and I had just finished my last wedding of the season. I had heard the same wedding dance songs, seen the same white bouquet. I just started feeling "this isn't me". It wasn't why I started photographing weddings, and it wasn't really what I loved about weddings. I had recently gotten all kinds of wedding awards and it was nice, because it validated what I was doing but I was getting all these brides who wanted the same thing. And I just didn't want to do it anymore. It didn't seem like what I had loved so much about photographing weddings in the first place. Which brings me to to the last several years. They have been wonderful!

Secret-garden-web-153-941x627.jpg

Last year I took on a limited amount of really special weddings, ones that truly meant something to me; I connected with the couples' and I just fell in love with their story. I stoped worrying about the amount of weddings I shot, and focused on the weddings that seemed interesting, meaningful and beautiful. It totally changed me. And it totally changed my work. I am limiting myself to just 10 weddings this summer. And YES, I still have spots available June-August!

Outdoor wedding photography

Outdoor wedding photography

I love natural light. I love down to earth outdoor weddings, its why and how I started photographing weddings in the first place.   I will also be limiting my weddings to specific venues. At home weddings, outdoors, or at venues that are light-filled. Some of these include The Lace Factory, The Inn at Mystic, South Farms,Connecticut Vineyards & The Winvian. It doesn't mean the entire wedding must be outside (although that is pretty much my favorite-who doesn't love a campfire?) I am also adding in some traveling dates to my weddings. So if you are getting married in LA or in Colorado, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, I would LOVE to photograph your wedding!

And lastly, and kinda why I started this post, COST. I hate talking about money but It's how I make a living, and I gotta feed my dogs! In order to give you the boutique wedding photography that you deserve I need to charge a bit more. One, the cost of living is going up, and I haven't raised my prices in FOREVER! In the last several years it is expected to include a USB drive, a private online gallery, and in order to provide all the nice extra's (like these photo boxes with prints) which are included in all my wedding packages, I must raise the price. Starting February 1, the starting cost for my wedding packages will be 4,200. For more information, or if you are interested in booking for THIS SUMMER feel free to contact me and we can see if I have your date opened!

Cheers,

K

I am finally getting back into the swing of things in 2019. My first blog post, and I am off to a great start. I am happy to be able to share these pics from my last session of 2018, with my good friend, and his family for the third year in a row.

I've remained the same as far as cost goes for my family sessions in 2019-2020 (still at $500 for a lifestyle session) but added a few more perks on my gallery pages on Pic Time! In 2019 you will be able to print what you love, from family sessions, as well as frame, make calendars, and cards too! I love Pic Time so much and the quality and amount of products they make available to my clients is amazing. From albums, to canvas prints. What I love most, is they take care of it for me, and all your products ship directly to you.

Best of 2018

The best of 2018! It's been a banner year for intimate weddings, and fun family sessions. As I look back on 2018 I have so many good pictures that it makes it hard to just pick a handful. So I am focusing on the candid pictures...the outtakes if you will

They were married at a small private ceremony and later threw this party for their friends and family to celebrate their marriage. Here are a few of my favorite highlights from the night! I loved the BBQ theme, it was a cozy atmosphere, with a homey down-to-earth feel. With lot's of kids running around and signature cocktails. The tables set with blue and white checks. Miranda & Lindsey's at home wedding

Miranda & Lindsey's at home weddingMiranda and Lindsey were married at a small at-home ceremony in Washington, Connecticut.  On 11/11 they were surrounded by their closest friends and family. On a sun-filled Sunday afternoon their family gathered around them in the elegant Livingroom of Miranda’s parents’ home. Encircled in an archway of white flowers, and ferns, just as the sun was setting on behind them through the French glass doors. They pulled off this elegant wedding in just one week! They had planned a large wedding elsewhere in May, 2019. However due to Miranda's mom's illness they pushed the date forward, and decided a small, at home wedding was exactly what they wanted. Friends and family helped to get the wedding together. You would never have known. It was as beautiful and sweet as any wedding I have seen. It’s not every day nor every year I am able to witness a wedding this special. I truly believe that the smaller the wedding the more magical it can be.  The house was packed with gorgeous flowers, which Miranda’s cousin drove all the way from Washington D.C. in a U-Haul! The food, exquisitely presented by a local chef. fun fall family session in Warren CT

we roasted marshmellows and breathed in that crisp fall air....

fun fall family session in Warren CTFor the Fifth year, I showed up on a Sunday morning to capture the Klein family at their pretty house in warren, Ct, in Litchfield County. The first real "crisp" fall morning. As always, I was greeted by their tiny dog, Lula. Family sessions are best when there is no rush, no where to be, and everyone can take their time! This is exactly what we did. A little  camp fire for the girls to roast marshmellows (yes for breakfast)! We slowly made our way to the garden for tree climbing and checking to see what was still growing. I can't tell you how much I love these moments. To be able to capture the genuine moments of every day family life in a beautiful & meaningful way. This is what it's all about!  fun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTfun fall family session in Warren CTIf you'd like to see more from the family you can see here and here  happy fall y'all! xx

Kathy & Jim: Culinary Art institute wedding

A foodies dream wedding

Kathy and Jim’s Culinary Art institute wedding was a first for me. A first for a lot of reasons. One being that CIA in Hyde park just started offering the campus’ gorgeous venue as a wedding venue and secondly, it was a bride that I could relate to on so many levels, and it left my heart so open for anything. Kathy, the same age as me (early fifties) was a bride for the first time, at 51. She knew she wanted something special, that both she and Jim love. Food. Her love for the culinary arts, and her own kitchen skills led Kate, of Green Apple Weddings, to find the perfect venue for them in Hyde Park, New York. *See below for all vendors. Senior Portraits 2019

I took some senior  portraits in Litchfield County, last week, and it was a first for me!  I had a really fun time with six senior girls from Harwington a few weeks ago, who wanted some portraits to document their final year of school together. All of the girls have been friends since grade school, so it was really fun to capture the group just a few days before senior year started. We chose Topsmead, as it is one of the most beautiful locations in Litchfield County. It's one of my favorite places to shoot portraits and engagement sessions. All the girls decided they wanted to match, so they chose white sundress' and sandals. Each one of them looked gorgeous. I loved that they were so creative,  They brought balloons, which they released at sunset, and made a sweet flower design out of cardboard and faux sunflowers (2019). senior portraitssenior portraitssenior portraits senior portraitssenior portraits

Sisters, are the best, and watching these two interact was hilarious.  I photographed them last summer as well.  I know I say this almost every shoot, but repeat clients are the best, watching them grow and change each year is so fun! Liza & Annie are both characters, as can probably see from the pictures. I love photographing kids in their own element: in this case it was their backyard. Liza had loads of ideas of where she wanted her picture taken, and I just followed behind her. Annie, on the other hand, was determined to have every single picture with her tongue out (hilarious). I was lucky to get a few of her smiling! If you would like to see last years photo session check it out here.
